Please, may it also be the last. We each had our own ways of coping with the stress and limitations throughout the whole experience, and I can confidently point to the California rivers for keeping my sanity intact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My job and my interests usually have me clocking some serious air time, so it was truly jarring to stay put for so long. Luckily, to be \u201clocked down\u201d in California has <em>major<\/em> perks. Even with a limited roaming radius, a day trip to one of the many rivers of the Sierra Nevada foothills was entirely reasonable, and allowed me the mental breathers from my Bay Area apartment that I so desperately needed.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:20px\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/image2-cropped.jpg\" alt=\"The Middle Fork American River Canyon\" class=\"wp-image-9489\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/image2-cropped.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/image2-cropped-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/image2-cropped-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:20px\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Whitewater rafting was able to safely resume in the summer of 2020, but I also regularly found myself hiking into the canyons to rest on the beaches and wave at the AO guests floating past. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/river\/middle-fork-american\/welcome.htm\">Middle Fork of the American River<\/a> is only accessible by raft and by foot, so you never see crowds &#8211; it was my favorite safe, quiet place to decompress.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:20px\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/image4-beach.jpg\" alt=\"Secluded Beaches on the Middle Fork American\" class=\"wp-image-9491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/image4-beach.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/image4-beach-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/image4-beach-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:20px\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The tall canyon walls block cell connection, totally disconnecting me from my work emails that I\u2019d so often find myself replying to around the clock and on the weekend &#8211; such a sheltering service made those forested walls all the more beautiful! And the Bay Area has a distinct lack of clear swimming holes, which the Middle Fork offers in abundance.
