{"id":5890,"date":"2013-07-30T08:00:46","date_gmt":"2013-07-30T15:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/?p=5890"},"modified":"2026-04-07T07:17:04","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T14:17:04","slug":"25-years-of-cherry-creek-rafting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/25-years-of-cherry-creek-rafting\/","title":{"rendered":"25 Years of Cherry Creek Rafting"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_0016.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5106\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_0016-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0016\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_0016-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_0016.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>There has been plenty of reminiscing around here lately.\u00a0 Last year we hit the big 5-0 in terms of years on California rivers&#8211;and this summer we realized that we&#8217;ve been on the mack-Daddy of the them all, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/river\/cherry-creek\/one-day-trips.htm\">Cherry Creek<\/a> for 25 years!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/scott-armstrong\/\">Scott<\/a> had this revelation when he was out\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/river\/cherry-creek\/one-day-trips.htm\">rafting Cherry Creek<\/a> at the begining of the 2013\u00a0season.\u00a0 He was going over the plan for the day with his two guide paddlers, Ryan and Kohner&#8211;and what struck him was not their youthful glow so much as the fact that it was their parents who had first explored\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/river\/cc-combos\/welcome.htm\">Cherry Creek<\/a> with Scott, his brothers and his Dad back in the 1980&#8217;s!\u00a0 It took two summers of training, complete with lots of flipping, tube-standing, hair-raising, sweet jesus moments and heart-pounding lessons in which way NOT to go before that original crew felt ready to start taking commercial guests.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been doing it ever since.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_0131.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4759 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_0131-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0131\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_0131-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_0131.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Cherry Creek is widely considered the most challenging commercial river trip in the United States.\u00a0 To put a little perspective on how ground-breaking those first trips were consider that Satan&#8217;s Cesspool, one of the most famous rapids on the South Fork of the American, which is a fun class III, was believed to be too dangerous to run in the 1960&#8217;s!\u00a0 There were people who thought the responsible thing to do was to line the boats through and then continue on down the river.\u00a0 Today people regularly tube Satan&#8217;s, or float through it on inflatable lobsters.\u00a0 Anyway, fifteen\u00a0years later we started running Cherry Creek&#8217;s back-to-back class V rapids.<\/p>\n<p>So here we are 25 years\u00a0down the road\u00a0and Scott is still out there rocking Cherry Creek, and taking literally a new generation of the AO family with him.\u00a0\u00a0 Hopefully with clean runs. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>(Above: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aorafting.com\/blog\/walker-brothers\/\">Adam and Danny<\/a>.
