This small and public campground, situated along the South Fork of the American River, offers a variety of tent camping and RV sites. Located just one mile from the All-Outdoors River Center, it is a convenient campground for pre and post trip camping in conjunction with our 3/4-Day and 1-Day trips. It is also the "Meeting Place" for some of our South Fork American River rafting trips as well as several other outfitters.

Where is Camp Lotus?

Camp Lotus is located two miles outside the small historic Gold Rush town of Coloma, and one mile from the All-Outdoors River Center. Make sure you stop and check in at the main office as you enter Camp Lotus. They'll provide you with a parking/camping pass. Parking is limited so please park closely together.

What is the camp like?

This long established public campground has eight acres of land and 2,000 feet of river front property (please note - there is no life guard on duty). It is well developed with electricity, running water, showers, flush toilets, volleyball, horseshoe pits, and a camp store. Campsites have access to community fire rings, BBQ pits, and picnic tables. Flat sleeping areas with tent sites are available. Camp Lotus only has a handful of sites with RV / Camp Trailer hook-ups. Special arrangements must be made for specific "hook-up sites."

How many people per site?

The sites vary in size considerably. Some hold as many as 70 people and others as few as two. The number of sites you have depends on the number of people in your party and the sites available at the time of your reservation.

When do I need to check out and break camp?

If camping only the night before your rafting trip, you need to break camp before meeting your guide and rafting. Otherwise your check out time is 12:00 noon, the day after your final night of camping.

What is there to do at the campground and in the surrounding area?

Just hanging around at the campsite is a welcome break from normal life. You can also cool off in the calm section of river passing by the campground, read a book you have been meaning to get to for years, or watch the fire burn at night around the campfire as you swap rafting tales from your recent trip. You won't want to miss the short trip to the historic town of Coloma, where the first gold was discovered in 1848 triggering the Gold Rush. The museum in town is worth a visit, along with the many restored buildings and artifacts left from those seeking their fortunes in California.
